Welcome to the Viola Tuner and Metronome app!

The app has an accurate pitch detection feature for tuning that will listen to the note as you play and, if it is identified as an open string on the viola, it will highlight the string on the viola graphic along with the peg used to tune it. If the note is sharp of flat it will advise whicn way to turn the peg to get it back in tune. An accurate pitch detection meter gives detailed information about the note being played, the frequency detected and how sharp or flat it is (measured as deviating from the closest detected note).

You can choose to tune using the main tuning pegs, for large adjustments, or the fine tuning pegs for smaller adjustments.

The chromatic tuner is good as a tool for learning to tune the Viola but it is good practice to learn to tune by ear. When you are playing with others you are likely to be tuning to a single note, typically A4, provided by one of the players. You can tune by ear with the app by tapping any of the tuning pegs. This will sound the note for that peg for you to tune with. The tuner dial will respond to the sound but will also pick up your played note if this comes to dominate.

Note that that tuning by ear is supported both by tapping the main pegs and the fine tuning pegs.

The metronome is designed to look, sound and interact like a classic metronome in a gourgeous wooden cabinate. You select the required beats per minute (BPM) by simply sliding the dial up and down the pendulum as you would with a real metronome. The BPM and the associated tempo (as used in classicial music notation) is displayed at the bottom. After pressing the button on the metronome the pendulum will swing to and fro at the selected tempo and an audible "tock" is sounded for each beat. Use the volume control on your device to adjust the volume.
