Welcome to the Guitar Tuner and Metronome app!

The Intro

The Guitar Tuner and Metronome app is a free Android app offering pro-level tuning for your 6 string guitars (classical, electric, acoustic), 4 string bass and 4 string ukulele. Tuning is accurate to within +/- 1 cent which exceeeds what the human ear is acapable of distinguishing. It is designed to be simple and intuitive to use with features such as auto string detection, graphical tuning advice and the option to tune by ear. The metronome is a traditional analogue pendulum style with easy sliding adjustment.

The Tuner

The tuner uses a pro-level pitch detection model delivering accuracy to wihtin +/- 1 cent (way beyond the human ear capability). The pitch detection meter displays frequency, nearest matching note and deviation from target. String auto detection highlights the string being played along with any required tuning adjustment. Just play open strings and the app will guide you on required tuning.

An oscilloscpoe gives a graphical representation of the wavform of the detected note

Note: Take care when turning the tuning pegs. Guitar strings can break if over tightened. Go gently in small increments.

Tune by ear

It's important not to get too reliant on a digital tuner. When playing with groups you will be tuning to a note played on one of the instruments. So here you will rely on your ears to monitor the tuning process. The app provides the option to tune using genuine guitar samples. This will help you practice tuning by ear. A tone can be selected for tuning each string by pressing the button next to the string.

Note generation relys on your device's capabilities for sound production. Make sure the device volume is adjusted appropriatly.

The Metronome

The metronome is designed to look, sound and interact like a classic metronome. You select the required beats per minute (BPM) by simply sliding the dial up and down the pendulum as you would with a real metronome. The BPM and the associated tempo (as used in classicial music notation) is displayed at the bottom. After pressing "START" the pendulum will swing to and fro at the selected tempo and an audible "tock" is sounded for each beat. Use the volume control on your device to adjust the volume.
