The Cello Tuner and Metronome app is, unsuprisingly, a free Android app that will help you tune your cello and help you keep your playing in time. The app is designed to be simple and intuitive to use without compromising on a professional level accuracy. It is ready to go right out of the box with no settings, registration or ads getting in the way. Just play and go!
The app has an accurate pitch detection feature for tuning that will listen to the note as you play and, if it is identified as an open string on the cello, it will highlight the string on the cello graphic along with the peg used to tune it. A pitch detection meter gives detailed information about the note being played, the frequency detected and how sharp or flat it is (measured as deviating from the closest detected note). The oscilloscope displays the wave form and amplitude of the detected note.
There is also the option to use the fine tuning pegs for tuning, rather than the main pegs, if they are fitted on the cello.
The app gives clear graphical guidance on how to adjust the pegs (main pegs and fine tune pegs) to bring the detected note in tune. Take care when adjusting strings with the main pegs, make small adjustments to avoid risk breaking strings.
It's important not to become too reliant on the chromantic tuner and to learn to tune by ear. When you are playing with others, this is how you will tune your cello. So there is an option to hear open string notes to tune by ear. Tap a peg (main peg of fine tuning peg) to hear the note.

The metronome is designed to look, sound and interact like a classic metronome. You select the required beats per minute (BPM) by simply sliding the dial up and down the pendulum as you would with a real metronome. The BPM and the associated tempo (as used in classicial music notation) is displayed at the bottom. After pressing the BPM button the pendulum will swing to and fro at the selected tempo and an audible "tock" is sounded for each beat. Use the volume control on your device to adjust the volume.
